Based on size of the computer

On the basis of hardware structure the first computer different types of computers are offering different services, processing power and storage capacity.

There are four basic types of computers are as follows:

  1. Micro Computer
  2. Mini Computer
  3. Mainframe Computer
  4. Super Computer

Micro Computer

A micro computer is a computer whose all components are on a single integrated circuit CPU. Micro computer is single user single tasking operating system, widely used & the fastest growing computers. It is specially designed for general usage like education training, entertainment, and work purposes. An Apple, Dell, HP, Samsung, Sony, Asus, and Toshiba are the well known manufacturers of Micro-computer.
There are mainly used in office, home, school, store, etc.

Mini Computer

Mini computer is more powerful than micro-computer and a high processing power. Mini computer are single user multi-tasking operating system. It is used by small business & films. Mini computer has greater storage capacity as compare to micro computer and it is also known as Midrange Computer.

Mainframe Computer

Mainframe computer are designed to handle volumes of data and information systems. Although it is not as powerful as super-computers, but certainly they are quite expensive nonetheless and many large films or government organization uses Mainframe to run their business operations. Mainframe computer are multi-user multi-tasking operating system.

Mainframe computers are slower than the super computers, but mainframe computer can also store & process large amount of data. It is use to Banks educational institutions or insurance companies to store data about their students, costumer, and insurance policy holders.

Super Computer

Super computer are the most powerful computers in the terms of performance and data processing. It is very faster and powerful. Super computers have the computing capacity of 40,000 micro computers.

These computers are mainly used for research, nuclear science lab, weather research and exploration purpose, like NASA and ISRO uses super computers for launching space shuttles, controlling them and for space exploration purpose.
